Deal Packages

Deal Packages Guide

This guide covers Deal Packages end to end: building and maintaining reusable product bundles, and applying one to a Quote.

01

Overview

A Deal Package is a pre-configured, reusable package of one or more products, which can include bundle products, each with its own pre-configured options like quantity, discounts, and dynamic attributes. An admin builds it once, and sales reps load it into a Quote in a couple of clicks, instead of adding each product by hand.

Building a Deal Package involves, at a high level:

  • Setting up the package - its name, category, visibility, and other descriptive properties
  • Assigning price books - which price book(s) the package can be used under, and where its pricing comes from
  • Adding products - including bundles, whose child products are created automatically from the catalog’s own bundle definition
  • Setting up product attributes - configuring per-product attribute values (options, specifications) where the catalog defines them
  • Activating the package so it becomes available for reps to apply

Deal Packages also supports list views with in-place filters, so an admin or user can narrow the package list down to exactly the set they work with regularly, and save that filter for reuse.

Public packages and public list views are admin-only to create

Any user with a Deal Packages seat can see and use a package or list view someone else marked Public - they just can’t mark their own package or list view Public, or otherwise share it with others. A non-admin’s own packages and list views are always Private (visible only to them) unless an admin creates or promotes them.

Getting to Know the Deal Packages App

Open the App Launcher and search for Deal Forge, then open the Deal Packages app.

Figure 1
Full Deal Packages app screen, with the left panel, header, tab strip, and detail area all visible.

Layout

The screen has three regions:

  • Left panel - the list of every Deal Package you have access to
  • Header bar - the name of the currently selected package, plus action buttons
  • Tab strip and detail area - four tabs for the selected package: Overview, Deal Package, Package Price Books, and Package Products

Left panel - search, sort, filter, refresh

ControlWhat it does
SearchType to filter the list by package name
SortToggles ascending/descending order by name. Hover shows “Sort ascending” / “Sort descending”
FilterOpens the saved list-view panel - see Section 9
RefreshReloads the package list from the server

Header bar - action buttons

Every button shows a styled tooltip on hover with a title and a short description. Buttons you don’t have permission for appear greyed out rather than disappearing - in practice this is rare, since creating, editing, and deleting packages is available to any Deal Packages seat (see Section 3).

ButtonTooltipEnabled when
Refresh“Refresh - Reloads the selected package from the server.”A package is selected
Edit“Edit - Switch to edit mode to make changes to this package.”You can update packages, and one is selected
Delete“Delete - Permanently delete this package. This cannot be undone.”You can delete packages, and one is selected

Overview tab - tiles, quick views, and actions

The Overview tab shows three tiles, each summarizing one part of the selected package. Hover the small summary icon on any tile to open its Quick View popover without leaving the Overview tab.

  • Tile 1 - Deal Package. At a glance: Name, Package Category, Effective Date, Active. Quick View adds: Visibility, Version, Description.
  • Tile 2 - Pricebooks. At a glance: a count and a comma-separated list of assigned price book names. Quick View: one row per assigned price book - Name (linked), Active, Valid From, Valid To - with an Unassign row-level action per row. This tile also carries the same tab-level actions as the full Package Price Books tab: Refresh, Assign, Unassign - usable from either the tile or the tab.
  • Tile 3 - Package Products. At a glance: a count and a comma-separated list of product names. Quick View: one row per top-level product - Name (linked), Type, Selling Model, Quantity, Discount - with Attributes, Edit, and Delete row-level actions per row. This tile also carries the same tab-level actions as the full Package Products tab: Refresh, Add, Edit - again usable from either the tile or the tab.

Every tile also has an Open Tab button (forward-arrow icon) that jumps straight to that tile’s full tab. In short: any tab-level action is available both from its own tab and from its Overview tile, and each tile’s Quick View additionally exposes row-level actions on the individual records inside it.

Creating a New Deal Package

Any user with a Deal Packages seat - Admin or standard User - can create, clone, edit, and delete packages. The one thing that’s admin-only is Visibility = Public (see the Visibility row below) - everything else about package creation works identically for both roles.

  1. Click New in the header
  2. Fill in the New Deal Package form
FieldNotes
Deal Package NameRequired. Checked for uniqueness as you type - you can’t save a duplicate name
Package CategoryFree-text category/family label
VisibilityPrivate or Public. Public is only enabled for admins - non-admins can only save as Private
VersionA number you control (versioning is manual, not automatic)
Effective DateWhen the package becomes effective
DescriptionFree text
Version NotesFree text, e.g. what changed in this version

A new package always starts inactive - there’s no Active field on this form. You activate it later, once it’s fully built (Section 8).

Figure 5
New Deal Package modal with all fields visible.

Click Save to create the package. It opens selected, on the Overview tab, with no products or price books yet.

Cloning an existing package

Instead of starting from scratch, click Clone in the header (with a package selected) to copy it:

  • Every field from the New form is pre-filled from the source package, plus its full product list and assigned price books
  • The name defaults to “CLONED: {source name}” and the description to “CLONED: {source description}” - edit these before saving
  • The clone always starts inactive, and Visibility resets to Private for non-admins even if the source package was Public
Figure 6

04

Setting Package Properties

The package’s own descriptive fields - the same ones from the New form, plus Active - live on the Deal Package tab:

  1. Select the package, open the Deal Package tab
  2. Click Edit in the header
  3. Update any field: Name, Package Category, Description, Effective Date, Version, Version Notes, Visibility, Active
  4. Click Save
Figure 7

Visibility follows the same admin-only-for-Public rule as the New form. Activation (the Active checkbox) is covered fully in Section 8, since there are a couple of things worth doing first.

05

Assigning Price Books

A package needs at least one assigned price book to be usable in a Quote - pricing on the Package Products tab is also read from whichever price book is currently selected here.

  1. Open the Package Price Books tab
  2. Click Assign in the tab’s title bar
  3. Search and check one or more price books, then confirm
Figure 8

The tab shows a table of every assigned price book:

ColumnSource
Pricebook NameLinks to the price book record
ActiveThe price book’s own Active status
Valid FromThe price book’s own effective-start date, if set
Valid ToThe price book’s own effective-end date, if set

To remove a price book, click Unassign and check the ones to remove (or use the Unassign action on that price book’s row in the Overview tab’s Pricebooks Quick View).

06

Adding Products

  1. Open the Package Products tab
  2. Click Add in the tab’s title bar
  3. Search for a product (2+ characters)
  4. In the results table, set Quantity, Selling Model, Discount Type, and Discount Value for each row you want, check the rows, and click Add
  5. Keep searching and adding - the modal stays open until you close it
Figure 10

Bundle products are automatic

If a product you add is a Bundle (defined in your product catalog), its child products are created for you automatically, following the catalog’s own bundle definition and quantity-scaling rules - there’s no separate “add child product” step. Expand a bundle row’s twisty in the products table to see its children.

The Package Products table shows: Product, Type, Quantity, Selling Model, List Price, Discount, Net Unit Price, plus a row-action column. Once a price book is assigned (Section 5), a row with no price entry in the currently selected price book is highlighted, with a tooltip explaining why.

Figure 11

07

Editing Quantities, Discounts & Attributes

Each product row has its own actions, available from the row’s action menu:

ActionWhat it opens
EditA single-row modal for Quantity, Selling Model, and Discount Type/Value
AttributesA separate modal for the product’s own configurable attributes
DeleteRemoves the row - only available on top-level (root) products, not bundle children
Figure 12
Row Edit modal for a single product, showing Quantity/Selling Model/Discount fields.
Bundle children have some fields locked

Since they inherit structure from their parent bundle: Quantity and Selling Model aren’t editable on a child row (Quantity scales automatically with the parent). Discount fields only appear on a child row when the catalog’s bundle definition says that child is priced separately from the bundle price.

Attributes opens a dynamic form built from that product’s own attribute definitions in your catalog - text, number, date, picklist, or checkbox fields, whatever the catalog defines for that product. Changes save immediately.

Editing several products at once: click Edit in the Package Products tab’s title bar (not a row action) to open Edit Product Lines - a table of every top-level product with Quantity, Selling Model, and Discount all editable in place, plus a Delete per row. Nothing is saved until you click Save on the whole table.

08

Activating a Package

Once the package’s properties, price books, and products are in place:

  1. Open the Deal Package tab and click Edit
  2. Check Active
  3. Click Save
Active alone isn’t enough

An active package becomes available for reps to apply to a Quote - but only for a Quote whose price book matches one of the package’s assigned price books (Section 5). A package with no assigned price book won’t be matched to any Quote, even while Active - assigning at least one price book is what actually makes a package usable, not the Active checkbox by itself.

09

List Views & Filters

The same Filter control from the left panel (Section 2) lets you build and save a reusable filter - a named list view scoped to a set of criteria (e.g. category or visibility) instead of browsing the full list.

  • Click Filter, then New List View to build one
  • Choose a Visibility for the saved view: Private (only you see it) or Public (everyone with a Deal Packages seat sees it) - the Public option is admin-only, same rule as package Visibility in Section 3, though it’s a completely separate setting
  • A non-admin who tries to save a view as Public has it silently saved as Private instead
Figure 16

Any user can select and apply a Public list view someone else created - non-admins just can’t create or promote their own to Public, matching the package-sharing rule from Section 1.

10

Applying a Deal Package to a Quote

This is the rep-facing side: loading a Deal Package’s products into a Quote. Any user with a Deal Packages seat can do this.

  1. Open a Quote record and click Browse Packages
Figure 17
Quote record with the Browse Packages action highlighted.
If the Quote has no price book yet

A Choose Price Book screen appears first and blocks everything else until you pick one: “Select a price book for this quote. You can add products only from a single price book. Changing a selected price book will delete all existing products from this quote.” Choose one from the Price Book dropdown, then click Save.

Figure 18
Choose Price Book prompt with the dropdown open.

The Browse Packages list then opens, showing only packages assigned to that price book:

ColumnShows
Deal PackageThe package name
Package CategoryIts category/family label
Versione.g. “v2”
PricebooksThe price book(s) it’s assigned to

Search by package name or by a product it contains; sort by clicking Deal Package or Package Category.

Figure 19

Select a package and continue to review it before loading. This screen shows the package’s own details (Package Category, Visibility, Version, Effective Date, Active) and its full product list:

ColumnShows
ProductProduct name
Selling Modele.g. “One Time”, “Term Defined”, “Evergreen”
QtyQuantity
List PriceThe product’s list price on the Quote’s price book
DiscountEither a percentage or a dollar amount, whichever the line uses
Net Unit PriceList Price after the discount

Expand a row (chevron) to view or edit that product’s own configurable attributes, if it has any.

Figure 20

Selecting or excluding individual products before loading

  • Public packages - every top-level product has a Select toggle. Turn one off to leave that product (and any of its bundle children) out of what gets loaded into the Quote.
  • Private packages - the Select toggle is disabled on every row; the whole package loads exactly as built, with nothing excludable.
  • Bundle child products never get their own toggle - they always follow whatever their parent bundle row is set to.
Figure 21

Click Load Configuration to add the selected products to the Quote. A confirmation toast appears (“{Package Name}” has been added to the quote.) and you’re returned to the Quote record.
